FAQs for Ticket To Ride

Ticket to Ride FAQ

Q: How many destination tickets (DT) do I draw at the beginning at the game, and during the action?
A: At the beginning of the game, the destination tickets are shuffled and three are dealt to each player. Each player must keep at least two, but could choose to keep three if they chooses. The discarded cards are placed in the bottom of the DT deck. If the action chosen was “Draw Destination Tickets”, the player draw three tickets and keep at least one of them, but may choose to keep two or three.

Q: How does turn progress?
A: Randomly, the first player is chosen, and play proceeds clockwise. Only one action can be performed at any one time.

Q: When drawing train cards, if I first draw a face-up card, and the replacement is a wild card (multi-colored locomotive), can I draw that as the second card?
A: No. If a player chooses to draw his first card from the five face-up cards, and that card is not a wild card, his second draw from the face-up cards cannot be a wild card. However, he may choose to draw from the face-down decks.

Q: Why are the face-up cards shuffled?
A: If at any time 3 locomotive (wild) cards are shown in the face-up pile, the cards must be discarded and new ones drawn to replace them. When the deck is exhausted, the discards are shuffled thoroughly and adds to the deck.

Q: What if there are no cards left in the deck?
A: While highly unlikely, under such a circumstance the players can only perform actions “Claim a route” or “Draw Destination Cards”. Either action MUST be performed, until the discard pile refreshes the draw deck.

Q: Do I announce the completion of my destination?
A: No. Fulfillment of the destination ticket condition is kept secret until the end of the game, to be tallied up to the point total.

Q: What is the longest continuous path?
A: As the name suggests, the longest continuous path is a path that could be lined using a pencil without leaving the paper. No path, once been counted, should be repeated.
